====Network Switches==== The department has two network switches with in the department. One is a 100 MB switch and the other is a 1 GB switch. All wiring within the department is Cat 5E which will handle 1 GB network speed. Below are things to remember to have your department computer use 1 GB network speed. * Computer need to have a gigabit Ethernet card. Older computers may not have a gigabit card. * Make sure you are using a Cat 5E cable (Enhanced Cat 5) to connect your computer to the wall network port. * Not all computers can be on the gigabit switch so only computers that need high transfer speeds should be on the high speed switch. If you feel that you need to be on the gigabit switch, David Delene (delene@aero.und.edu) can help get your computer on the high transfer speed switch. The University of North Dakota was connect to the ultra high-speed regional computer network known as the Northern Tier Network Consortium (NTNC) in July 2009. This upgrades allows faster network speeds to research institutions and universities such as the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
